Journal Writing

home button

Journaling with children can be rewarding for so many reasons, including building fine motor skills, handwriting, and cognitive skills as well as boosting self-confidence and imagination. It can be used as a tool to enrich vocabulary, to improve writing skill and to clarify thinking. Additionally, journaling can help students get their feelings out and on paper. Keeping a journal will help students feel safe to express their emotions and their thoughts about what's going on in their lives at school, at home with family, with their friends, or anything else.

Journal topics should be simple, engaging, and connected to their daily lives so they feel confident expressing their ideas. At this age, kids are developing both writing skills and creativity, so topics should be fun, concrete, and open-ended.

Here are some great journal topic ideas.
